Gouldings Green gets up at Turfway

Melnyk Racing Stables Inc.'s GOULDINGS GREEN (Charismatic) closed strongly down the lane of Turfway's Polytrack to nab It's No Joke (Distorted Humor) a few jumps before the wire to annex the $100,000 Turfway Park Fall Championship S. (G3) on Saturday. Rating in ninth through the initial half-mile, the Tony Reinstedler trainee kicked into gear turning for home, finishing off the mile contest in 1:38. Sent off as the even-money favorite, the winner gave back $4.20, $3 and $2.60 while topping the $23.80 exacta, $115 trifecta, and $606.20 superfecta (10-8-7-2).

It's No Joke was prominent early and pulled clear through the lane, but couldn't keep up with the winner late. Let off at 7-1, the runner-up gave back $6.20 and $5.20 while three lengths clear of his nearest pursuer. Alumni Hall (A.P. Indy) lost momentum after leading early but re-rallied late to gain a well-deserved third, good for $5 at 7-1. Honor in War (Lord at War [Arg]) finished off the super at 9-2 and was trailed by Summer Book (Notebook), Going Wild (Golden Missile), Free Thinking (Unbridled), Tap Dancing Mauk (Louis Quatorze), Esprit Du Roi (Chi) (Gran Lung Fung), Greater Good (Intidab), Flirt with Fortune (Touch Gold) and J Town (Jules). Cognac Kisses (Dixie Union) was withdrawn.

Gouldings Green upped his mark to 15-8-2-2 with earnings of $501,122. The five-year-old was exiting a win in the Seagram Cup S. (Can-G3), and also owns tallies in the Hanshin Cup H. (G3) and Alysheba S. He was bred in Kentucky by Marvin Delfiner and brought a bid of $260,000 at the 2002 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

The winner was produced from Elusive Gold (Strike the Gold) and has an unnamed yearling half-brother by Cape Town.
