Cambiocorsa scores in Senator Ken Maddy

Leatherman Racing and Ran Jan Racing's CAMBIOCORSA (Avenue of Flags) stalked the pacesetting Victory Spy (Victory Gallop) in the early running of Wednesday's $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy H. (G3) on Oak Tree's opening day before taking over and pulling away for the 2 1/2-length score. Racing along the inside under Jon Court, the Doug O'Neill charge moved to the outside of the pacesetter entering the final turn, was bumped when that one veered out crossing the dirt, but never lost her momentum to finish the about 6 1/2-furlong firm Santa Anita turf test in 1:12.

Sent off the 1-2 favorite in the field of 11, Cambiocorsa paid $3, $2.40 and $2.40 while keying the $1 exotics of $5.90 (exacta), $41.40 (trifecta) and $803.20 (11-3-1-12 superfecta). Sandra's Rose (Old Trieste) rallied from just off the pace to take second by three parts of a length over Bettarun Fast (Kelly Kip), returning $3.40 and $2.60 at 5-1.

Show was worth $4.80 at 19-1, and next under the line were Wee Bit Fancy (Dominique's Cat), Conveyor's Angel (Conveyor), Strong Faith (Pioneering), Hello Lucky (Lucky Lionel), Victory Spy, Tiz a Gem (Cee's Tizzy), Private Banking (Fr) (Anabaa) and Toupie (GB) (Intikhab). Revealed (Old Trieste), Wild Storm (Chi) (Hussonet) and Quemar (NZ) (Haafiz [Ire]) were all withdrawn.

Bred in California by John Fradkin & Diane Fradkin, Cambiocorsa is out of the Afleet mare Ultrafleet, making her a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Shadow Raider (Memo [Chi]) and an unnamed 2006 colt by Unusual Heat. Sold for $90,000 as a Barretts June two-year-old, Cambiocorsa now boasts a 15-9-0-2, $504,055, career mark, including victories in the Las Cienegas H. (G3), Irish O'Brien S., Wishing Well H. and Wishing Well S.
