Wild Gams gets up in Safely Kept

New Farm's homebred WILD GAMS (Forest Wildcat) stalked the early pace in Saturday's $200,000 Safely Kept Breeders' Cup S. (G3) at Laurel Park before rallying in the stretch for a three-quarter of a length win under Ryan Fogelsonger. As the 6-1 third choice, Wild Gams was worth $14, $3.80 and $2.80 while starting the $32 exacta and $124.80 trifecta (8-2-5).

Cajun Mistress (Salt Lake), G City Gal (Elusive Quality) and Coli Bear (Formal Dinner) all battled it out for the lead on the front end through fractions of :22 3/5, :45 3/5 and :57 3/5. By that point, Wild Gams was moving up ominously, and after driving to the front, she stopped the clock in 1:09 4/5 on the fast dirt for trainer Ben Perkins Jr.

Even-money favorite Wildcat Bettie B (Meadowlake) began fading on the turn after running just in behind the first flight, but she put in a game rally while running five wide to grab second at the wire, giving back $2.40 and $2.10. G City Gal  paid $3.40 at 8-1 for her refusal to give up, just a head behind second and one length in front of Livermore Valley (Mt. Livermore). Following the top four under the line were Miss Macy Sue (Trippi), Coli Bear and Cajun Mistress. New Hope Seven (Carson City) was withdrawn.

Wild Gams earned her second graded victory here, having taken the Cicada S. (G3) in March on Aqueduct's inner dirt. The bay miss has also scored in the Eleven North H. and Oxford Scholar S., and was second by a neck to Wildcat Bettie B in the Prioress Breeders' Cup S. (G1) this summer. She improved her career mark to 12-6-2-0 and now boasts $405,206 in lifetime earnings.

The New Jersey-bred Wild Gams is the third registered foal out of the stakes-winning Diamonds and Legs (Quiet American), making her a full sister to stakes winner Diamond Wildcat (Forest Wildcat).
