Liquor Cabinet much the best at Aqueduct Edward Evans' homebred LIQUOR CABINET (Ire) (Hennessy) took command after the opening quarter-mile and left the competition in his wake with a dominant nine-length tally in the $109,800 Aqueduct H. (G3) on Saturday. Trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., the six-year-old was up by a half-length after traveling four furlongs in :47 1/5, widened his lead to seven lengths when recording six furlongs in 1:11 3/5, and opened up by as many as 12 lengths in the lane before securing his final margin at the wire. The bay finished off 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 3/5 under Ramon Dominguez, and the 6-5 choice gave back $4.40, $2.90 and $2.20. Angliana (Giant's Causeway) closed from midpack to gain the place, good for $5.90 and $3.40 while completing the $28.20 exacta at 6-1. Naughty New Yorker (Quiet American) closed from last to garner show honors, worth $2.90 at 4-1. The winning trifecta returned $75. Shuffling Maddnes (Real Quiet) came next and was trailed by Mayan King (Stephen Got Even), New York Hero (Partner's Hero) and Silver Prospector (Silver Deputy) while Who What Win (Dance Brightly) was scratched. Liquor Cabinet boosted his bankroll to $234,968 from a 12-5-5-0 lifetime mark. The lightly raced bay was second in the Stymie H. three prior and finished fourth in the Excelsior Breeders' Cup H. (G2) two back. He is out of the stakes-winning and Grade 1-placed Key Hunter (Jade Hunter). "His next race," Dutrow stated, "will either be the Santa Anita H. (G1) or Gulfstream Park H. (G2) (both scheduled for March 3)."
