It's all Gold in Swale John D. Murphy's homebred ADORE THE GOLD (Formal Gold) rode the rails to an impressive three-quarters of a length score in the $150,000 Swale S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The Michael Gorham pupil broke alertly from his two post and was pressured throughout, recording swift splits of :22, :44 3/5 and 1:09 1/5, prior to completing the 6 1/2 furlongs in a sharp 1:15 4/5 while keeping Forefathers (Gone West) at bay late. The 5-2 second choice paid $7.20, $3.80 and $2.60, while topping the $16.90 exacta ($1), $30.90 trifecta ($1) and $117.50 superfecta ($1) under Cornelio Velasquez. "I had a lot of horse at the eighth pole," Velasquez noted. "Forefathers pressured him at the head of the lane. I still had a lot of horse." Forefathers chased the winner from the outset but could never get by while staying on his left lead late, finishing 6 1/4 lengths clear of his nearest pursuer. The talented sophomore gave back $4.40 and $2.60 at 7-2. Cowtown Cat (Distorted Humor), the 3-2 favorite, never challenged the top pair but did well to earn the show spot, good for $2.20. Reata's Rocket (Cape Canaveral) was on the bottom of the (2-6-4-5) superfecta, and was trailed by Gunfight (Fusaichi Pegasus), Storm Trust (Storm Boot) and First Cavalry (Forest Camp). Adore the Gold improved his lifetime mark to 5-4-0-0, $203,787, in earning his third career stakes win. The dark bay previously annexed the Dover S. and H. Steward Mitchell S. Produced from the winning Amore E Baci (Dixieland Band), Adore the Gold has an unraced two-year-old full sister named Just Amore. "We'll likely stretch him out," Gorham said. "He's already gone two turns. We'll stretch him out, but we just don't know where or when yet."
