High Again wins Bonnie Miss Zayat Stables LLC's HIGH AGAIN (High Yield) earned her first black-type victory on Saturday with a 1 1/2-length score in the $150,000 Bonnie Miss S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park. Trained by Bill Mott and ridden in the 1 1/8-mile test by Cornelio Velasquez, the chestnut miss was sent off the 3-1 second choice and paid $8.60, $3.40 and $2.60 for stopping the clock in 1:50 4/5 on the fast dirt. Lisa M (Banker's Gold) moved to the front when the gates opened, setting splits of :23 2/5, :47 4/5 and 1:12 1/5, all the while tracked by High Again. Christmas Kid (Lemon Drop Kid) made her move rounding the turn to seize the lead and it appeared for a moment as if she would go on to take the whole race. However, High Again wasn't done, rallying past her rival at the eighth pole and drawing clear late for the win. "We learn a little bit every time with this filly," Mott said. "I was a little concerned with the way Christmas Kid went by her on the turn, but it was encouraging with the way she got going again and went after it. It looked today like she was really suited to the 1 1/8 (-mile) distance." "After today, we surely have to be thinking about (the Kentucky Oaks [G1] or Ashland S. [G1]). I've been thinking about it, but they have to show you a race like this before you get serious about it. I think she earned her way into that kind of race now." Christmas Kid was a length better than Fee Fi Fo Fum (Giant's Causeway) at the line, paying $2.60 and $2.20 as the even-money favorite while ending the $10.40 exacta ($1). Fee Fi Fo Fum was sent off at 9-1 and held third by 3 3/4 lengths to return $3.40 and end the $57.20 trifecta ($1). Swift Temper (Giant's Causeway) rounded out the $489.70 superfecta ($1) (2-6-4-8) and was followed by Lost Etiquette (Lost Soldier), Lisa M, Miss Tizzynow (Tiznow) and Naseem (Point Given). High Again took four tries to break her maiden, doing so by 3 1/2 lengths in her final start as a juvenile on November 12. She returned in late January to post that same margin when taking an allowance at Gulfstream, then ran second prior to this one in the Davona Dale S. (G2). From a 7-3-1-1 career mark, the chestnut filly doubled her earnings to $179,350. High Again is the second registered foal out of the stakes-placed Miss Belle O (Olympio), who has also produced the juvenile filly Miss Johann (Johannesburg) as well a yearling filly named Miss Lion Heart (Lion Heart). The Bonnie Miss winner was bred by Four Quarters Corp. in Kentucky and purchased for $140,000 as a Fasig-Tipton July yearling.
