Carmandia rallies for Bed o' Roses Four Roses Thoroughbreds' CARMANDIA (Wild Rush) was content to settle in last during the early running of Saturday's $153,900 Bed o' Roses Breeders' Cup H. (G2) at Aqueduct, but rallied up the rail in late stretch to take the seven-furlong test by two lengths under Mike Luzzi. The Richard Dutrow-trained five-year-old was sent off the 5-2 second choice and returned $7.30, $4.50 and $3.30 while keying the $53.50 exacta and $127 trifecta (1-3-5). Carmandia ran with Swap Fliparoo (Exchange Rate) in the rear while Magnolia Jackson (Cape Canaveral) set splits of :22 2/5, :45 and 1:09 4/5. Moving up around the turn, Carmandia slid to the inside of the pacesetter to stop the clock in 1:22 4/5 on the fast dirt. Magnolia Jackson gave back $6.90 and $4.60 at 8-1 and was followed by Swap Fliparoo another half-length back. Show was worth $3.30 at 3-1. Even-money favorite Any Limit (Limit Out), whose saddle slipped according to jockey Rafael Bejarano, and Livermore Valley (Mt. Livermore) completed the order under the wire. Carmandia earned her first stakes win last year when taking the First Flight H. (G2) and ran fourth in the Barbara Fritchie Breeders' Cup H. (G2) prior to this one. The chestnut mare, bred in Kentucky by Buckram Oak Farm, now boasts $376,213 in lifetime earnings to go along with a 19-6-4-2 career mark. She is the first stakes victress for the winning Her Secret (Mining), who has also produced an unraced juvenile filly named Silent Wind (Cryptoclearance) and an unnamed yearling filly by Victory Gallop).
