Dennis G. Punches' JET PROPULSION (Double Honor) sprinted to the fore after
the gates opened in Saturday's
$105,000
Miami
Mile Breeders' Cup H. (G3) and led the rest of the way, recording his
first graded victory with a 1 1/2-length decision. None of his rivals challenged
him through moderate early splits in :24, :48 and 1:11, and the four-year-old
gelding accelerated away from the rest of field when turning into the stretch,
eventually completing eight furlongs over the firm Calder turf in 1:34. Eduardo
Nunez guided the Danny Hurtak charge.
Dismissed at 25-1, Jet Propulsion paid $52, $17 and $11.20. Giant Wrecker
(Giant's Causeway), the 5-1 fifth choice among 11 runners, stalked the
pacesetter in third before grabbing runner-up honors in the stretch and gave
back $8.20 and $5.60. Paradise Dancer (Langfuhr) gave up the place but still
managed to finish a length back in third, returning $6.20 at nearly 9-1. The
exacta totaled $341.20, the trifecta $3,221.20 and the 7-3-6-9 superfecta
$24,118.60.
Hotstufanthensome (Awesome Again), the 2-1 second choice, offered a
mild rally from midpack for fourth and was followed by 2-1 favorite Classic
Campaign (Rahy), Can't Beat It (Atticus), Elizabul (Eltish), defending champion
Gigawatt (Wild Again), Manchu Prince (Gone
West), Touched by Madness (Sword Dance [Ire]) and Fancy Silver (The Silver
Move). Electric Light (Silver Ghost), Mending Fences (Forestry), Nacascolo
(Rahy) and Rehoboth (Wagon Limit) were scratched.

Bred in Florida by Farnsworth Farms, Jet Propulsion made 15 of his first 17
starts in the claiming ranks and was seized by his current connections for a
$25,000 tag in August 2005. The bay made his stakes debut last June and captured
the Needles S. two starts later. He also finished second in the Donthelumbertrader S. last summer. In his previous start, Jet Propulsion
finished fifth in the Turf Classic S. at Tampa Bay Downs.
"We claimed this horse two years ago for $25,000," assistant
trainer Donna Green
said. "It's great to have him back home at Calder. He's not a very good shipper
and didn't run his best race last time in Tampa."
Out of the winning Her Jet (Northjet [Ire]), Jet Propulsion has earned
$215,695 from a 27-7-8-1 line. His half-siblings include stakes victress J. T.'s
Jet Liner (Line in the Sand), an unnamed juvenile colt by Robyn Dancer and a
yearling colt by Suave Prospect.
