Teammate game in Shuvee conquer Joseph Allen's homebred TEAMMATE (A.P. Indy) overtook pacesetter Sugar Shake (Awesome Again) in midstretch and inched away to a half-length score in the $150,000 Shuvee H. (G2) at Belmont Park on Saturday. Breaking on top, Teammate was content to track the early leader through splits of :23, :46 4/5 and 1:11 3/5 for the opening six furlongs. In the early stretch, she was roused by Cornelio Velasquez and responded, finishing the one-mile test in 1:38 over the fast main surface. The nearly 4-1 winner paid $9.70, $3.40 and $2.50, and topped the $21.20 exacta and $56.50 trifecta (5-3-2). Sugar Shake, the 3-5 choice, ran gamely in defeat while three lengths clear of her nearest pursuer. The runner-up was good for $2.50 and $2.20. Rahys' Appeal (Rahy) was in good position turning for home but could not catch the top pair, settling for third as the 6-1 third choice. Show was worth $2.80. Silmaril (Diamond) was another three lengths back and followed by Last Romance (Wild Rush) and Swap Fliparoo (Exchange Rate). Teammate earned her second graded stakes win, having scored in the Bonnie Miss S. (G2) last year, and counts a trio of graded placings in the Alabama S. (G1), Gazelle S. (G1) and Davona Dale S. (G2) on her resume. For her career, the gray miss has banked $495,276 from a 16-4-5-1 mark. The Kentucky-bred winner is out of the multiple stakes-winning Starry Dreamer (Rubiano), who placed in eight graded stakes events in her career. Teammate was preceded in graded stakes glory by her three-quarters brother Ecclesiastic (Pulpit) and half-brother War Front (Danzig), and counts a yearling colt named Factum (Giant's Causeway) and an unnamed 2007 colt by Storm Cat as half-brothers.
