Tough Tiz's Sis pulls away at Hollywood

Watson and Weitman Performances LLC's TOUGH TIZ'S SIS (Tiznow) was always prominent in Sunday's $126,400 Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks (G2), and when asked for her best run, the filly responded in a big way, pulling clear by 3 1/2 lengths under Aaron Gryder. The Bob Baffert charge broke alertly and tracked on the inside as Follow the Clues (Hold for Gold) led through splits of :23 4/5 and :47 1/5 for the opening half-mile. As the field approached the turn for home, Tough Tiz's Sis began to assert herself and inch away from her rivals, getting six furlongs in 1:11 2/5 and a mile in 1:36 3/5, prior to stopping the teletimer in 1:43 1/5 for 1 1/16 miles over the Cushion Track. The 2-1 second choice paid $6.40, $2.80 and $2.40 while topping $1 exotics that were worth $5.20 (exacta), $29.30 (trifecta) and $76.30 (3-5-7-4 superfecta).

Silver Swallow (Alphabet Soup) was never far back but couldn't accelerate enough to catch the winner late, finishing 6 1/4 lengths clear of her nearest pursuer. The runner-up was worth $2.40 and $2.10. High Cholesterol (Until Sundown) paid $2.80 for the show and was trailed by Follow the Clues and Ashley's Kitty (Tale of the Cat), who was rank from the start as the 5-2 third choice. Seaside Affair (Sea of Secrets) and Spenditallbaby (Unusual Heat) were withdrawn, as was Hucking Hot (GB) (Desert Prince [Ire]), who tied up according to trainer Paddy Gallagher.

Tough Tiz's Sis earned her second stakes score in here following a tally in the Sunland Park Oaks two prior. The bay filly upped her bankroll to $253,872 from an 8-4-1-1 lifetime mark.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Gary Tussey and produced from the stakes-placed Leaseholder (Taylor's Falls). She was preceded in stakes glory by her half-sister Golly Greeley (Mr. Greeley) and counts an unnamed 2007 filly by Even the Score as a half-sister.
