No regrets for Good Mood

Flying Zee Stable's GOOD MOOD (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) rated in sixth early, split horses and angled over to the inside in midstretch, then came with a ferocious rally along the hedge to earn her first stakes score in the $228,600 Regret S. (G3) at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Trained by Patrick Biancone, the three-year-old miss benefited from a masterful ride from jockey Edgar Prado to be 1 3/4 lengths clear the wire while finishing nine furlongs on the firm turf in 1:47 2/5.

Good Mood was worth $11, $5.40 and $3.80 as the 9-2 second choice, and keyed the $117.80 exacta, $808 trifecta and $8,687.20 superfecta (6-11-7-8). You Go West Girl (Mr. Greeley), the 7-1 fifth pick, returned $8.40 and $6.20 for getting her neck in front of Dashes N Dots (Aptitude) at the line. Dashes N Dots took the lead soon after the start and looked a winner in the stretch after setting splits of :23 2/5, :47, 1:10 4/5 and 1:34 3/5, but couldn't hold the top two at bay. Show paid $4.80 at 9-2.

Communique (Smart Strike) was another 2 3/4 lengths back in fourth and was followed by Dawn After Dawn (Successful Appeal), Swingit (Victory Gallop), High Heels (E Dubai), Perfectforthepart (Dynaformer), Luna Dorada (Seeking the Gold) and Sans Reward (Ire) (Barathea [Ire]). Dreaming of Anna (Rahy) was withdrawn.

Good Mood began her career in France, finishing second in last year's Criterium du Bequet, before making her U.S. debut a fourth in the Blue Norther S. She ran off-the-board in the Appalachian S. two back and was most recently third in the Edgewood S. over this course. The bay sophomore pushed her earnings to $180,771 while improving her mark to 7-2-2-1.

Bred in Ireland by the Executors of the late Robert E. Sangster, Good Mood sold for $123,364 as a Tattersalls December weanling and then brought $72,984 as a Deauville August yearling. She is out of the Group 3-placed Pillars of Society (Caerleon).
