Desert Code wires Affirmed Tarabilla Farms' DESERT CODE (E Dubai) took command shortly after the gates opened and never looked back en route to a 1 3/4-length tally in the $106,600 Affirmed H. (G3) over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park on Father's Day. Trained by David Hofmans and piloted by Richard Migliore, the consistent sophomore led the field through splits of :24 3/5, :48 3/5 and 1:12 1/5 for the initial six furlongs and opened up from there, going 3 1/2 lengths clear while reaching one mile in 1:37 1/5, prior to completing the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44 1/5. Sent off as the 6-1 longshot in the five-horse field, the winner gave back $14, $5.40 and $3.40 while keying the $25.70 exacta ($1) and $92.70 trifecta ($1). Albertus Maximus (Albert the Great) was in good striking position early and was outmoved turning for home, but the burly colt found his best stride late to finish a clear second. The 3-1 fourth choice paid $4.60 and $3.20 while 2 1/4 lengths clear of third. Cobalt Blue (Golden Missile) tracked in second early but had no answer in the stretch, holding the show spot by a head, good for $3 as the 5-2 second choice. Time to Get Even (Stephen Got Even) and Awesome Gambler (Coronado's Quest), the 2-1 favorite, dead-heated for fourth. Unusual Suspect (Unusual Heat) was withdrawn. Desert Code earned his second graded tally following a victory in the Baldwin S. (G3) three prior. The chestnut boasts $231,434 from a 9-4-2-1 mark, which includes placings in the Lazaro Barrera Memorial S. (G3) and La Puente S. The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by ClassicStar and brought a final bid of $150,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling sale. He is out of the stakes-winning Chatta Code (Lost Code) and was preceded in stakes glory by his half-sisters Forest Code (Forestry), winner of the Giant's Causeway S. this past April, and Soul Onarazorsedge (Carson City).
