In Summation closes the deal in Bing Crosby Waterford Stable's IN SUMMATION (Put It Back) rallied gamely between pacesetter Bordonaro (Memo [Chi]) on the rail and Greg's Gold (Lake George) on the outside to get up by a nose in the $300,000 Bing Crosby H. (G1) over the Polytrack at Del Mar on Sunday. Trained by Christophe Clement and ridden by Corey Nakatani, the dark bay completed six furlongs in 1:11 and gave back $18.40, $9 and $6 at 8-1. Bordonaro set the early tempo and established splits of :22 3/5 and :45 3/5 for the opening half-mile. The leader turned for home traveling well and opened up a one-length advantage when reaching five-eighths in :58, but the 7-2 co-second choice could not hold off the top pair. In Summation and Greg's Gold to his outside were rallying nearly in tandem after the leader, with the former getting a nose in front late. Greg's Gold earned the place while 1 1/2 lengths clear of third, paying $5.80 and $3.80 and completing the $56.20 exacta ($1) at nearly 9-2. Bordonaro was another 2 1/2 lengths ahead of his nearest foe, good for $4. The trifecta paid $317.80 ($1). Battle Won (Honour and Glory), also sent off at 7-2, tracked the pacesetter early but faded to fourth, concluding the $864.60 superfecta ($1). Gotaghostofachance (Silver Ghost) was next and followed by Declan's Moon (Malibu Moon); Northern Soldier (Yankee Victor); E Z Warrior (Exploit), the lukewarm 7-2 favorite; and Corazondelcampeon (Comic Strip). In Summation earned his first graded score in this one, with his stakes triumphs totaling six overall. The four-year-old owns wins in the Affirmed and Dr. Fager Divisions of the Florida Stallion S., as well as the Birdonthewire S., B L's Sweep S. and Sneakbox S. last time out. From a 17-7-4-0 career mark, the dark bay sports $670,226 in earnings. The winner was bred in the Sunshine State by Arthur Appleton and fetched a bid of $130,000 at the 2005 OBS March Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. Produced from the winning Dayjur mare Fiesta Baby, In Summation is a half-brother to Canadian stakes winner Dakota Duke (Stormy Atlantic) and an unraced three-year-old filly named Jen's Halo (Halo's Image).
