Precious Kitten draws off in Mabee

Ken and Sarah Ramsey's homebred PRECIOUS KITTEN (Catienus) overtook pacesetter Dancing Edie (Moscow Ballet) turning for home and pulled clear to a convincing 1 1/2-length score in the $400,000 John C. Mabee H. (G1) over the firm Del Mar turf on Saturday. Alert at the break and tracking the early leader through splits of :23 2/5, :46 4/5 and 1:10 2/5 for the opening six furlongs, the four-year-old swept passed Dancing Edie at will and completed 1 1/8 miles in 1:46 1/5 beneath Rafael Bejarano. The Bobby Frankel trainee was 3-5 as the gates opened and returned $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10, while topping the $4.30 exacta ($1) and $19 trifecta ($1) (5-1-2).

Dancing Edie kept on well after being passed to secure the place spot by a nose. The 3-1 second choice paid $3 and $3. Memorette (Memo [Chi]) closed from last to finish third, giving back $3.80 in the process. Take the Ribbon (Chester House) was next and followed by Andrea (NZ) (Danasinga), while morning-line favorite Price Tag (GB) (Dansili [GB]) was an early scratch.

The Kentucky-bred Precious Kitten continued her string of consistency that shows the dark bay finishing in the top two slots of seven consecutive graded stakes races. The miss boosted her bankroll to $889,688 from a 15-5-7-1 line, which includes wins in the Mrs. Revere S. (G2), Gallorette H. (G3) and Martha Washington S. The classy filly was second in the CashCall Mile Invitational S. (G2) in her most recent effort.

Produced from the winning Kitten's First (Lear Fan), the winner was preceded in stakes glory by her half-brother Kitten's Joy (El Prado [Ire]), the 2004 champion turf horse, as well as the multiple stakes-winning Justenuffheart (Broad Brush), herself the dam of  Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) champion Dreaming of Anna (Rahy) and Grade 2 victor Lewis Michael (Rahy). Precious Kitten has an unraced three-year-old full sister named Last Kitten.
