Roshani cruises to Matchmaker score

Ben McElroy's ROSHANI (Fantastic Light) took over at the top of the stretch and rolled home to a measured one-length win in the $150,000 Matchmaker S. (G3) at Monmouth Park on Sunday. Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Garrett Gomez, the talented filly was always in good striking position in the early going before putting in her winning run, completing 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 2/5 over the firm turf. The even-money favorite paid $4.20, $3.40 and $2.80 while topping the $48 exacta, $368.40 trifecta and $2,116.20 superfecta (8-3-6-2).

Trick's Pic (Favorite Pick) saved ground off the pace and closed well late to earn the place spot at 14-1, worth $8 and $6. Pacesetter Humoristic (Sefapiano) battled gamely after being passed to retain the third slot. The 24-1 shot was good for $6. High Moment (High Yield) concluded the super at 10-1 and was trailed by Hopes and Dreams (More Than Ready), La Dolce Vita (Quiet American), Silver Charades (Broad Brush) and In Return (Horse Chestnut [SAf]). Criminologist (Maria's Mon) was scratched.

Roshani earned her initial stakes triumph, following a third in the Eatontown S. (G3) in her stakes debut most recently. The lass sports a 7-4-1-1 career mark with $193,500 in earnings.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Mill Ridge Farm & Jamm Ltd., and brought $135,000 at the 2007 Keeneland January sale. Produced from the unraced Sahibah (Deputy Minister), Roshani has an unraced three-year-old half-sister named Mirjah (Elusive Quality), an unnamed yearling half-brother by Johar and a 2007 half-brother by Eurosilver.
