Majesticperfection suffers career-threatening injury

Daily Racing Form reports that Alfred G. Vanderbilt H. (G1) hero MAJESTICPERFECTION (Harlan's Holiday) fractured his right front leg at Saratoga on Sunday, putting his racing career in the balance. The once-beaten four-year-old, who had won five straight, had recently emerged as the leader in the sprint division.

Owned by Padua Stables and trained by Steve Asmussen, Majesticperfection breezed five furlongs in 1:02 on the fast Oklahoma training track, but exited the morning work with a condylar fracture.

Surgery was to be performed on the top-class sprinter later on Sunday at Saratoga Equine Clinic.

"We'll wait and see how the surgery goes and what the doctor's take on it is after surgery," Sasha Sanan, Padua's racing manager, told the DRF. "It could be career-ending, not positive."

Majesticperfection progressed from unraced maiden to budding superstar in just a little more than sixth months. He did not debut until this season, finishing third in a January 24 maiden at Fair Grounds. He has not tasted defeat since. After winning over the same course next out, he passed his first two allowance conditions at Oaklawn and Churchill by margins of 10 3/4 and four lengths, respectively. Majesticperfection meted out the same punishment to stakes rivals in the June 25 Iowa Sprint H., where he smoked six furlongs in a track-record 1:07 1/5 at Prairie Meadows.

Making his graded debut in the August 8 Alfred G. Vanderbilt at the Spa, Majesticperfection ran his rivals off their feet en route to a 2 3/4-length victory, in a sparkling 1:08 3/5 for six furlongs. He has garnered BRIS Speed ratings of 112, 112, 105 and 107 for his last four wins.

Plans had originally called for Majesticperfection to proceed to the October 2 Vosburgh S. (G1) at Belmont and then the November 6 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Bred by Ron McPeek and Shane Floyd in Kentucky, Majesticperfection failed to reach his reserve when bringing a $25,000 bid as a Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling, but he commanded $370,000 as an OBS two-year-old in training. He has amassed $310,430 in earnings.
