Favorites upset in Monmouth, Woodbine stakes Odds-on favorites took it on the chin in graded stakes at Monmouth Park and Woodbine on Saturday. At Monmouth, Hebbronville (Majesticperfection) rallied from last in the field of six to take the $101,000 Jersey Shore (G3) by a neck over W V Jetsetter (Jet Phone), with 1-2 favorite Blame Jim (Sharp Humor) 7 3/4 lengths farther behind in fourth. Owned by Chocktaw Racing Stable, Winning Horse Stable, and Scott Galloway, Hebbronville returned $11.80 after completing six furlongs in 1:09.65 over a fast track with Trevor McCarthy up. Trained by Lynn Whiting, Hebbronville was winning for the first time in stakes company. In six prior stakes appearances, the three-year-old had placed in the Futurity (G2), Gazebo S., and Bachelor S., the latter two at Oaklawn Park. His record now stands at 10-4-1-2, $244,850. At Woodbine, Uchenna (Fastnet Rock) held off 9-10 favorite Strut the Course (Strut the Stage) to take the $122,778 Ontario Matron (G3) by three parts of a length. Ridden by Alan Garcia, the Irish-bred completed 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack in 1:43.74 and paid $11. Owned by Triton Racing and trained by Roger Attfield, Uchenna was winning for the fourth time in 13 starts. She began her career in England, where she broke her maiden on turf at Goodwood and also won a minor handicap on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. Uchenna made three starts for Attfield prior to the Ontario Matron, her lone win being an allowance score on the Woodbine turf May 24. She preceded this with a fourth-place finish in the seven-furlong Trillium S. last month. She's now earned $124,202. Bet Horseracing Free Online at TwinSpires.com
