McDynamo gives notice of his return Two-time steeplechase champion MCDYNAMO (Dynaformer) stamped his ticket to the October 28 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase (NSA-G1) at Far Hills with an easy 6 1/4-length win on Friday in the $72,750 Somerset Medical Center Race for Cancer Awareness Hurdle S. (NSA-G2). Making just his second start of the year, the hard-knocking nine-year-old rated in second before taking over entering the stretch and pulling off for the 6 1/4-length victory under Jody Petty. McDynamo finished the 2 1/2 miles over 10 National Fences in 4:28 2/5 on Meadowlands' firm turf while carrying top weight of 162 pounds. Trained by Sanna Hendriks for owner Michael Moran, the bay adds this one to nine other stakes scores, three of which came in the Breeders' Cup Steeplechase. If he takes that event for a fourth time, it could be enough to move him into the top spot on the National Steeplechase Association's career earnings list as well as earn him another Eclipse Award. As it stands now, the gelding has earned $922,994 and moved his mark to 29-14-6-1. Sent off the 8-5 second pick, McDynamo paid $5.40, $2.80 and $2.20 while keying the $13.40 exacta and $11.30 trifecta ($1) (3-5-1). Mixed Up (Carnivalay), winner of the New York Turf Writers Cup (NSA-G1) in his previous outing and the 7-5 favorite on Friday, rallied late for second while never threatening the winner and gave back $2.40 and $2.20. Lone Arrow (Archers Bay) finished another half-length back in third to return $2.60 at 3-1. Swoop and Soar (Imperial Falcon) and Feeling So Pretty (Nordic Legend) completed the order of finish while Toughkenamon (Maria's Mon) fell over the final fence. Praise the Prince (NZ) (Prince of Praise) was withdrawn. McDynamo is out of the unraced Rondonia (Monteverdi [Ire]), making him a full brother to Grade 3 winner Old Chapel. Moran purchased McDyanmo for $82,000 at the 1998 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
