Baden-Baden gets underway The Baden-Baden Sales Company (BBAG) launches its Autumn Mixed Sale on Thursday, which acts as the centerpiece of the Baden-Baden Racing and Sales Festival and is stretched to three days this time. Featured in the 500-strong catalog at Iffezheim are the usual mix of foals, yearlings, horses in and out of training and broodmares, with the sires represented including the established and the new in Big Shuffle, Black Sam Bellamy, Dashing Blade, Lando (Ger), Monsun, Next Desert, Ransom O'War, Samum, Royal Dragon, Sholokhov, Tertullian and Tiger Hill. Last year, a new record was set when when Group 3 scorer Dalicia (Ger) (Acatenango) was purchased by BBA Germany for 400,000. Other graduates include this year's New York Breeders' Cup H. (G2) winner, Noble Stella (Ger) (Monsun). Of the foals on offer, Gestut Sommerberg's draft includes three eyecatchers. They are Hip 29, a Fantastic Light son of the Group 3 winner Just in Fun (In the Wings [GB]); Hip 93, a Lando three-parts sister to the 2001 Hansa-Preis (Ger-G2) winner, Aeskulap (Acatenango); and Hip 122, a Tiger Hill daughter out of listed winner and multiple Group 3-placed Intuition (Gold and Ivory). Black Sam Bellamy has some choice yearlings in his first crop and they include Hip 96, Dieter Meinke's half-sister to the Group 3-winning miler and sire Banyumanik, and Hip 364, a half-brother to two-time Group 3 winner Terre de l'Home from the draft of Gestut Fahrhof. Others to note are Gestut Hof Iserneichen's Dashing Blade brother to the listed winner and 1995 German One Thousand Guineas (Ger-G2) runner-up, S'Il Vous Plait, and Hip 476, a Lomitas colt from the family of Vahorimix, Val Royal (Fr), Valixir (Ire) and Vadawina from Fahrhof. In the horses-in-training section, the winning sophomores NEW STYLE (Tertullian), a filly consigned by Gestut Karlshof as Hip 140, and Gestut Bona's NESTOR (Silvano [Ger]), a colt offered as Hip 445, are interesting candidates for overseas buyers. The broodmares include Hip 227, the listed-winner and Group 3-placed LARANA (Lavirco). Norbert Schnettler's seven-year-old is in foal to Black Sam Bellamy. Selling begins Thursday morning and will continue through Saturday. Catalog and updates are available at www.bbag-sales.de.
