Alexander Tango dies in accident Garden City S. (G1) winner ALEXANDER TANGO (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) died in a freak accident while in quarantine Monday in Kentucky, according to Racing Post. The Tommy Stack-trained sophomore, whose career high came in the September 8 Belmont contest, was also the winner of the Derrinstown Stud One Thousand Guineas Trial (Ire-G3) at Leopardstown and was fourth in the Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) at The Curragh a fortnight later. "The accident happened during the night," Stack's son and assistant Fozzy told the trade daily on Tuesday. "The filly was out in a paddock at Woods Edge Farm, which is owned by Paul O'Callaghan, a nephew of Alexander Tango's owner, Noel O'Callaghan, when something frightened her and she jumped rails, fatally injuring herself. It is a shame, as she was such a good filly, and we were all looking forward to racing her again next year." Alexander Tango made her last start a seventh in the Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) to next out Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) heroine Lahudood (GB) (Singspiel [Ire]). In total, she racked up a 12-4-2-1 mark and $369,442 in prizemoney.
