Declines continue as Keeneland January concludes

SINGSONG, a winning four-year-old filly offered as a broodmare prospect, was acquired by Machmer Hall for $52,000 at the fifth and final session of the 2017 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale on Friday in Lexington, Kentucky.

Consigned by Buck Pond Farm (Douglas S. Arnold), agent, the New York-bred by Unbridled's Song won twice at two for earnings of $77,269. Hip No. 1669 is out of stakes winner Church Camp, by Forest Camp, and is from the family multiple Grade 2 turf scorer Middlesex Drive.

Friday's trading, like the rest of the week's sessions, ended with business down in comparison to last year. The final session saw 171 horses sold for $1,306,400, a decline of 21 percent from last year's fifth day when 197 head brought $1,790,100. The session average was off 15.9 percent, from $9,087 to $7,640, while the median was unchanged at $5,000.

For the week, 961 horses grossed $28,785,500, off 18.8 percent from a year ago when 1,040 horses sold for $35,463,000. The average was down 12.2 percent, while the median dipped by 4.5 percent, from $11,000 to $10,500.
