Action This Day gets off the mark as a freshman sire

Champion ACTION THIS DAY (Kris S.), whose juvenile daughter Vivian Champions

had already won in Mexico in June, was represented by his second winner when

Rapid Release posted a determined victory at Brighton in England on Sunday.

Trained by Sir Mark Prescott, the chestnut colt finished well to pull 1 1/4

lengths clear beneath Seb Sanders in the day's opening event. Rapid Release

completed the seven-furlong affair on firm turf in 1:25 2/5 while buffeted by

high winds.

Action This Day took home the Eclipse Award as the champion two-year-old male

of 2003. After breaking his maiden in his second start, the B. Wayne Hughes

colorbearer was pitched into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita,

where he rallied to a 2 1/4-length victory. In so doing, the bay became one of

horseman Richard Mandella's unprecedented four Breeders' Cup winners that day.

Action This Day eventually retired with a mark of 9-2-1-0, $822,484. 

Out of the multiple Grade 2-placed Najecam (Trempolino), Action This Day

hails from the family of veteran international campaigner Lord Admiral (El Prado

[Ire]), who captured this year's Jebel Hatta (UAE-G2) and Al Rashidiya (UAE-G3).

Action This Day's third dam is *Bitty Girl (Habitat), England's champion

juvenile filly of 1973.

The seven-year-old stallion stands for a fee of $10,000, live foal, at Spendthrift Farm

near Lexington, Kentucky.
