Ten juvenile fillies will contest Sunday's $150,000 Adirondack S. (G2) at
Saratoga, and we'll tab likely favorite POSITION LIMIT (Bellamy Road). Trained
by Todd Pletcher, the dark bay filly from the first crop of Grade 1 winner
Bellamy Road turned in a magnificent performance at first asking, winning by 6
3/4 lengths in the mud at Belmont Park. She dropped back at the start and closed
with a rush to inhale her rivals on the far turn, earning a 100 BRIS Speed
rating for the score. The additional furlong here should benefit her
and she shows a couple of solid drills over the track in preparation. Position
Limit is very promising.
COAX LIBERTY (Successful Appeal) will offer the opportunity for some value in
the exacta. Trained by James Lawrence, the dark bay offered a strong rally for
runner-up honors in her debut, notching a 101 BRIS Late Pace rating. She
improved off that outing last time, drawing clear by 1 1/2 lengths in a 5
1/2-furlong maiden special weight test at Delaware Park, and received a
commendable 96 BRIS Speed rating. There's plenty of speed to set up the
good-looking late runner, who brings jockey Jose Caraballo with her.
ALIENATION (Rock Hard Ten) invades for Bob Baffert off a debut win over the
turf at Hollywood Park. She gamely got up to win the five-furlong maiden event
by a nose and was flattered when the runner-up came back to break her maiden in
sharp fashion at Del Mar. The dark bay should appreciate Sunday's added distance
and also shows a quick five-furlong work over the track. Martin Garcia will be
in to ride.
MISS SARAH BROWN (Mass Media) merits consideration for the top three. She
earned a field-best 102 BRIS Speed rating when winning her debut by 1 1/4
lengths and was sold privately off that performance and transferred to John
Terranova. She's posted four nice works at the Spa, including a five-furlong
bullet, and picks up the services of Garrett Gomez. The Florida-bred looks like
the one to catch from post 2.
Calder shipper BECAUSE I LIKE IT (Lion Heart) finished second by a
half-length to Awesome Feather (Awesome of Course) in the J J'sdream S. last
time and that rival rolled to a 4 3/4-length tally in the Desert Vision division
of the Florida Stallion S. series in her next outing. Conditioned by Steve
Stanbridge, Because I Like It has an experience edge over most of these rivals
and blew out three furlongs over the track five days earlier in preparation.
We'll include her on some tickets.
NINA FEVER (Borrego) posted a nice debut win at Keeneland two back but has
been freshened for 107 days off a dull showing against male rivals in the
Kentucky Jockey Club (G3). Trainer Wesley Ward excels with two-year-olds, but
we'll just watch to see how his charge fares in this spot. GOLDEN PHOENIX
(Suave) rolled to a 6 1/2-length maiden decision last time at Churchill Downs,
but we're not sure what she was facing that afternoon. We'll give her one
against stakes rivals. HULA (Stormy Atlantic), TRISTANME (Bwana Charlie) and
SILVISLIP (Forestry) all have something going for them, but they haven't run
fast enough yet for us to recommend their chances here.
