Buzzards Bay back to his best in All American

Gary Broad's BUZZARDS BAY (Marco Bay) captured his first race since annexing

the Santa Anita Derby (G1) last April when scoring in the $150,000

All American

H. (G3) at Golden Gate Fields on Monday. The four-year-old pressed the

pace in second while 3-2 favorite Trickey Trevor (Demaloot Demashoot) carved out fractions of

:22 4/5, :46 and 1:09 1/5 in a ground-saving trip on the rail. Buzzards Bay made

his move entering the homestretch, easily pulling away under jockey Jose

Valdivia Jr., going a mile in 1:34 1/5 and completing the 1 1/8-mile affair in

1:47 over a fast track.

Buzzard's Bay left the gate as the 2-1 second-favorite, returning $6, $3.40

and $3, while leading $1 exotics of $25.10 (exacta) and a $136.40 trifecta

(3-4-6). Melanyhasthepapers (Game Plan), who raced next-to-last for a majority

of the trip, rallied to take over second, but was still not able to get any

closer than four lengths from the winner. Place gave back $6.20 and $3.40 at

11-1 while Ace Blue (Brz) (Coax Me Clyde) grabbed third at 12-1, paying $5.

Molengao (Brz) (Royal Academy), Greeley's Galaxy (Mr. Greeley) and Trickey Trevor completed the order of finish.

Adreamisborn (Kris S.) was scratched.

Bred in Florida by Jay Shaw, the Ronald Ellis-trained chestnut is out of the unraced Lifes Lass (Seneca Jones).

His current owner acquired Buzzards Bay for $725,000 last July at Fasig-Tipton,

when he went through the ring after the first session of the yearling sale.

This is Buzzards Bay's third stakes victory,

having taken last year's Golden Gate Derby in addition to his Santa Anita Derby

win. Monday's score

pushes his earnings to $816,971 while improving his record to 14-4-1-3.
