Arqana sees increases at December Sale

Deauville December Sale continued Tuesday with a pair of sessions, one for

yearlings and one for horses in training. There was increased demand for

yearlings this year compared to 2005, when just one brought more than 20,000.

This year, a pair of yearlings each sold for 77,000 to top the session. The

first to reach that price was Lot 679, an Iron Mask filly from the Haras du

Logis draft. Produced by the Darshaan mare Daftiyna, the bay was purchased by

the Wertheimer brothers. The half-sister to stakes winner Golden Island

(Selkirk) hails from the Aga Khan family of Doyoun.

Her price was matched later by Lot 782, a colt from the

first crop of Dalakhani. Consigned by Haras de Fresnay le Buffard, the bay out

of stakes-placed Sinueuse (Fabulous Dancer) is a half-brother to the stakes-placed

Russian Muse (Machiavellian). His female family includes Fappiano and Keeper Hill, among others.

The top

price for a horse-in-training was 85,000, paid by Alain Decrion for the

two-year-old filly Ripping (Green Desert). Selling as Lot 864 from Pascal Bary's

stable, the bay had placed twice in British maiden races. She was produced by a half-sister

to Group 2 victor Zipping (Zafonic) and Group 3 heroine Nipping (Night Shift) as well as

Group 3 winner Zelding (Warning [GB]), the

stakes-winning dam of Grade 3 winner Beauty is Truth (Pivotal).

Thursday's final session will feature the complete dispersal of jumping

trainer Thomas Trapenard.
