Bahamian Squall enters stud at Double Diamond

Last updated: 8/24/15 5:49 PM

Donald R. Dizney's homebred Bahamian Squall (Gone West), a Grade 2 winner of

$582,920, will retire to Dizney's Double Diamond Farm in Ocala, Florida, to

stand the 2016 breeding season.

Winner of the 2013 Smile Sprint H. (G2) at Calder for trainer David Fawkes,

Bahamian Squall turned back a stellar group of sprinters in that six-furlong

test, defeating 2012 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) winner and Eclipse Award champion

sprinter Trinniberg, millionaire Jackson Bend and Justin Phillip.

A son of sire of sires Gone West, Bahamian Squall also annexed the 2012

Sunshine State Stakes at Gulfstream Park. In demonstrating his versatility,

Bahamian Squall sped seven furlongs in a fast 1:21.12, soundly defeating Fort

Loudon by 3 1/2 lengths. At five, Bahamian Squall also won a seven-furlong

allowance test at Gulfstream Park, running an interior six furlongs in 1:08.78

and stopping the timer in 1:21.47.

"Bahamian Squall proved his class on the racetrack, beating the leading

sprinters of his generation," said Roger Brand, general manager of Double

Diamond Farm. "One of his most impressive traits is that he is able to sustain

his speed. He is a horse of exceptional talent from a noteworthy family and we

look forward to introducing him to Florida's breeders."

Bahamian Squall boasts a lifetime record of 25-5-6-4 and enjoyed his best

season at the races in 2013, banking $353,310, while hitting the board in five

of eight outings in Dizney's familiar red, white and blue colors.

Produced from the Storm Bird mare Midway Squall, Bahamian Squall hails from a

strong female family replete with two graded black-type winners, an additional

black-type winner and two stakes-placed runners. He is a three-quarter brother

to Grade 3 winner Apriority (Grand Slam), stakes winner Squall City (Carson

City) and the stakes-placed pair of British Attitude (Broad Brush) and Acadia

Breeze (Royal Academy).

Double Diamond Farm plans to offer a similar investment opportunity to

breeders as the operation did with First Dude's "Gold Cup Pass," where 20

breeding rights will be made available for potential investors. First Dude is

currently the sixth-ranked first-crop sire nationally and No. 3 in Florida.
