Ballymore Lady gets up in Endeavour

Ron McCauley and Colin Purcell's BALLYMORE LADY (War Chant) angled out

entering the final turn and wore down a stubborn Elusive Lady (Van Nistelrooy)

late to annex the $125,000

Endeavour S. (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday.

Trained by Eddie Kenneally, the six-year-old mare clocked 1 1/16 miles on the

firm turf in 1:42 1/3 under Jose Lezcano. The 6-1 fourth choice returned $14.80,

$6.20 and $4.60 while topping the $88.60 exacta, $1,739.60 trifecta and $9,762 superfecta (4-1-7-10).

Elusive Lady made the pace through fractions of :24 and :48 3/5 for the

opening half-mile, but relinquished her lead to Audacious Chloe (More than

Ready), who got six panels in 1:13. The early leader rallied back in the lane and

led in midstretch but could not hold off the winner while a neck back on the

wire. Sent

postward as the 9-2 third choice, the runner-up gave back $6.40 and $6.20.

Sousaphone (Stravinsky) made a bold move on the inside late to garner show

honors, a nose shy of second. The 45-1 outsider was worth $13.20.

Audacious

Chloe capped the superfecta at 13-1 another head back and was followed by 3-2

choice Ginger Brew (Milwaukee Brew), Stormy West (Gone West), Impressionism

(Broad Brush), Grand in Grey (Alphabet Soup), Jaunty Gale (Tiger Ridge), Cozzi

Capital (Cozzene), American Border (Boundary) and Zip Trick (City Zip). Awesome

Moment (Awesome Again) and Kitty Cat Express (Cat Thief) didn't draw into the

field.

Ballymore Lady improved her career line to 19-7-3-2, $305,655 with the win.

The mare earned her first stakes conquer in this test, and also owns placings in

the Mint Julep H. (G3) and Indian Maid H.

The winner was bred in the Bluegrass State by Grapestock, LLC and was most

recently purchased for $200,000 at the 2008 Keeneland November sale. She was

produced from the Alydar mare Basking and is a half-sister to 2001 Cowdin S.

(G3) victor Sunray Spirit (Hennessy) as well as an unraced two-year-old filly

named Clavadista (The Cliff's Edge) and an unnamed yearling colt by More Than

Ready. This is the same family as multiple Grade 1 star Bounding Basque (*Grey

Dawn II).
