Manor S. (G3) for two-year-olds at Churchill Downs when the David Pate-conditioned dark bay led

10 rivals wire-to-wire. Deputy G overcame a stumble at

the start to gain the early lead, holding a narrow advantage while caught

between horses going four wide, and managed to open up a two length-lead in the

stretch before fending off R Loyal Man (More Than Ready) by a half-length for

the win. Deputy G set splits of :21 3/5, :45 4/5 and :58 2/5 before completing

the six-furlong contest in 1:11 1/5 over a track listed as fast.

The 8-5 favorite, ridden by Gary Stevens, returned $5.20, $3.80 and $3 while

keying a $58.60 exacta. R Loyal Man gave back $8.60 and $6.40 at 10-1 while

Honor Due (Proud and True) followed by another two lengths to pay $4.60 at nearly 7-1,

ending the $234 trifecta.

Brilliant Son (Stormin Fever) slammed into Cockney Can Man (Cavaneral)

in the early going and was disqualified from fourth and placed seventh.

This moved Federer (Grand Slam) up from fifth and he rounded out the 4-7-9-6

superfecta ($1), which paid $509.10.
