Bayern out of San Felipe

Undefeated morning-line favorite Bayern has been withdrawn from Saturday's

Grade 2 San Felipe because of a bruised hoof,

Hall of Fame trainer

Bob Baffert

confirmed Thursday afternoon.

"Bayern out of San Felipe," Baffert tweeted. "Bruised inside quarter. Was

looking forward to seeing him run Saturday. Be OK soon."

The news was first reported by TVG's

Simon Bray, who

tweeted that the colt was "battling a bruised inside 1/4 per text from Bob

Baffert."

The TVG Researchers

provided further information via Twitter:

"The issue is not considered serious and Baffert said they are looking for a

new prep.

"Per text from Baffert, Bayern will train up to the Santa Anita Derby (April

5) or Arkansas Derby (April 12)."

Two-for-two so far, Bayern was last seen crushing a Santa Anita allowance by

15 lengths, considerably enhancing his profile on the Kentucky Derby trail. The

$320,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic purchase was to make his eagerly-anticipated

stakes debut in the San Felipe, where he had been installed as the 8-5 favorite.
