A field of 10 will travel about seven furlongs on the Beard Course in Thursday's
Beaumont S. (G2) at Keeneland,
and DIPLOMAT LADY (Forestry) has been installed as the lukewarm 3-1 morning-line
favorite. Trained by Christopher Paasch, the dark bay miss is coming off a
fourth in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) and will try to get back to the form that
last year saw her taking the Hollywood Starlet S. (G1). However, based on her
recent performances, we're going with another contender to come out on
top.
DANCE DAILY (Five Star Day) hasn't shown quite the same brilliance as
Diplomat Lady in her previous starts, but the chestnut miss does own two nice
wins at Keeneland. This gives the D. Wayne Lukas trainee an advantage over six of
her rivals, including Diplomat Lady, who have never raced at Keeneland. Dance
Daily captured the Santa Ynez S. (G2) in her second start this year, defeating champion Folklore (Tiznow) and earning a 101 BRIS Speed rating,
and a repeat of that performance will make her very difficult to beat. Listed at 5-1 on the morning line, Dance Daily pairs with jockey Robby Albarado for the first time, and the two could find themselves getting their
picture taken together.
INDIA (Hennessy) broke her maiden last year at Saratoga in dramatic fashion,
posting a 12-length victory, but was then soundly beaten in the Matron S. (G1)
in her next start off a layoff. She finished out her juvenile season with a
third in the Valley View S. (G3) and retuned with a nice allowance win at
Gulfstream Park. Prior to this one, the chestnut filly was a close second in the
Forward Gal S. (G2) and she could finally breakthrough with her first stakes win
here. John Velazquez will be aboard the Todd Pletcher runner.
WILDCAT BETTIE B (Meadowlake) was a nice 1 1/2-length winner of an
allowance/optional claimer at Oaklawn Park last out, earning a 95 BRIS Speed
rating and solid Pace figures. The Larry Jones charge has shown improvement this
year and could add some value to the exotics under Terry Thompson.
YACHATS (Forest Camp) owns only three lifetime starts, but the other Pletcher trainee could still challenge
for a top three placing. The chestnut filly
broke her maiden and took an allowance, prior to running fourth in the Old Hat
S. (G3) in her stakes debut. She earned competitive numbers in all three of
those starts and will have Rafael Bejarano in the irons, which will only help
her chances. MOTION (Albert the Great) is the only other filly in this field
with a win at Keeneland, breaking her maiden last year during the track's fall
meet. Her only other win came last out in an allowance at Gulfstream while
stretching out to nine furlongs, and she could factor in the gimmicks.
Diplomat Lady has faced the best in the three-year-old filly division this
year and held her own. She could easily take this one, but we're willing to take
a chance against. JOINT EFFORT (Runaway Groom) is one of the more experienced
runners in this field with 10 lifetime starts and captured the Sunshine Millions
Oaks two back while making her sophomore bow. She could grab part under Rene
Douglas.
LAKE ALICE (Mt. Livermore) hasn't been able to challenge in her past four
starts against stakes company and doesn't look to do so here either. FAST DEAL
(Grand Slam) has finished well back of some others in here. We can't
recommend. TERRI'S CHARMER (Silver Charm) looks out of her class in this spot.
