Belong to Me colt sets OBS record

A colt by Belong to Me, Hip No. 362, set an all-time record at the Ocala

Breeders' Sales Company's March Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale on

Wednesday, selling for $1.8 million to Buzz Chace, agent. The previous record

for any horse of any age at an OBS auction was set in 1982 when K D Princess,

the dam of Horse of the Year Conquistador Cielo, sold for $1,725,000.

The colt, consigned by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent, is the first

foal out of the winning Royal Academy mare Vassar. His second dam, multiple

stakes winner Dixie Fine (L'Emigrant), is a half-sister to stakes-winning,

stakes producers Nijinsky's Lover (Nijinsky II) and Or Vision (Irish River

[Fr]).

The record-setter worked a quarter-mile in a bullet :21 at the first under

tack preview on March 11. He was offered at the 2005 Keeneland September

Yearling Sale, but was RNA'ed for $105,000.

A short while later, Darley Stable paid $1 million for Hip 368, a filly by

Indian Charlie out of V Sign (Robellino). Consigned by Leprechaun Racing, agent,

the bay is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner V Formation (Proud Birdie)

and stakes-placed Sign of a Bird (Proud Birdie).

The filly worked a quarter mile in :21 1/5 at the first under tack preview.

Leprechaun Racing, agent, bought the Florida-bred lass for $67,000 at last

year's Fasig-Tipton July Selected Yearling Sale.

Chace, as agent, also purchased Hip 357, a colt by Songandaprayer out of

Valid Expression (Valid Appeal) named MESS'N AROUND for $650,000. Consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, the chestnut is out of a full sister to multiple

stakes winner Appealing Sara and from the same female family as 1965 Charles H.

Strub S. hero Duel (Round Table) and 1967 Arkansas Derby winner Monitor (Round

Table).

The colt drilled an eighth-mile in :10 1/5 at the March 11 preview.

Hartley/De Renzo bought the Florida-bred for $105,000 at the 2005 OBS August

Yearling Sale.

Two juveniles sold for $550,000, Hip 373, TIS A MAN (Tiznow), and Hip 402,

SIEMPRE LISTA (Unbridled's Song). The former was consigned by Solitary Oak Farm

(Danny Pate), agent, and purchased by Bowling & Associates. The latter was

consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, and purchased by R.B.T.S.,

agent.

For the second and final session, 145 horses sold for $18,404,000, a whopping

61.2 percent increase compared to the same session last year when 135 horses

sold for $11,414,000. The average price jumped 50.1 percent, from $84,548 to

$126,924.

For the two-day auction, 286 horses sold for $31,044,000, which represents a 17.6

percent increase compared to 2005 when 323 horses sold for $26,399,000. The average

price rose 32.8 percent, from $81,731 to $108,545.
