Big Drama returns in Swale

(G2) at Gulfstream Park, but trainer David Fawkes isn't looking to use the

seven-furlong event as a prep to the Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 2. Fawkes

declared earlier this month that the Derby is no longer under consideration for the

once-beaten colt.

Winner of the Florida Stallion Stakes series for Florida-breds last year, Big Drama

will bring a five-race win streak into the Swale. He was being pointed toward

the Holy Bull S. (G3), and a possible run toward the Kentucky Derby, in January,

but the dark bay colt kicked himself in the stall and underwent minor surgery to

correct the problem. Big Drama has trained forwardly since returning to the

worktab in late February, recording a five-furlong bullet work at Calder on

March 15, and Eibar Coa will return to the saddle.

THIS ONES FOR PHIL (Untuttable), who made a splash when registering a 2

1/4-length victory in the Sunshine Millions Dash S. two starts back, will cut

back to a more favorable sprint distance following a fifth in the Fountain of

Youth S. (G2). After earning a whopping 111 BRIS Speed rating in the Sunshine

Millions, the Richard Dutrow-trained gelding was bet down to 7-2 odds last time,

but he wasn't able to sustain his speed after setting the early pace. Garrett

Gomez will pick up the mount on This Ones for Phil, who also figures to

appreciate the class relief on Saturday.

Only six horses will contest the Swale. Trainer Nick Zito will saddle

last-out allowance winner BRAVE VICTORY (Lion Heart), and conditioner Todd Pletcher

is responsible for maiden winner B Z WARRIOR (Malibu Moon), who finished third

when making his second lifetime start in an allowance last out.
