Bluebird mare tops Inglis

Last updated: 6/28/07 6:54 PM

A half-sister to Hong Kong Group 1 winner Jeune King Prawn (Danehill) topped

Thursday's final session of the Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Broodmare Sale

at Oaklands, Victoria, in Australia.

Paringa Park paid A$245,000 to secure Lot No. 727. By Bluebird, the daughter

of Group 3 winner Western Chorus (Western Symphony) was a member of Trevor

Gluck's Tremon Thoroughbreds draft, offered as part of a dispersal. Believed to

be in foal to Danehill Dancer, the unraced eight-year-old mare is the dam of a

Flying Spur colt that topped the weanling portion of the Great Southern Sale,

selling for A$240,000 earlier in the week.

"Broodmares in foal to commercial stallions were sought after, while quality

race fillies off the track have also been in huge demand," said William Inglis &

Son Director Peter Heagney.

Gross receipts in excess of A$2-million for the final session -- coupled with

Wednesday's figures -- saw an increase of 41 percent over last year's broodmare

section, while the overall average price of A$15,873 represents a 26-percent

increase over last year's corresponding figures.

The sale continues Friday, with more than 250 yearlings and horses of racing

age on offer. A supplementary draft of 70, will also be available.
