Breeders' Cup selects The V Foundation as beneficiary
The Breeders' Cup announced Tuesday that it has selected The V Foundation for
Cancer Research as its primary non-profit beneficiary for the 27th running of
the Breeders' Cup World Championships, to be held November 5-6 at Churchill
Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the second year in a row The V Foundation
has been the primary non-profit beneficiary of the Breeders' Cup World
Championships. In 2009, the Breeders' Cup raised $136,000 for The V Foundation,
an organization founded by ESPN and Jim Valvano in 1993.
In addition to The V Foundation, the Breeders' Cup will continue to raise
funds and awareness for equine-related charities it has supported since its
inception in 1984.

Fans donating $25 or more to The V Foundation will receive an exclusive framed collage of Zenyatta, the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner.
"Both Ann and I are delighted to support the great work of The V Foundation and their magnificent endeavors to help people in need," said Jerry Moss, who co-owns Zenyatta with his wife, Ann. "Zenyatta has thrilled millions with her victories in the Breeders' Cup, and we're extremely proud that her fans will have the opportunity to be a part of this important and worthy cause."
In addition to the ticket promotion, The V Foundation will participate in the weeklong series of events at the Breeders' Cup, both on and off the track in a variety of ways:
|
* An undercard race during the Breeders' Cup World Championships will be
named Jimmy V "Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up" in honor of the continued
relationship
* Information locations on-site at Churchill Downs about the Foundation
* Involvement with the Thursday kickoff Breeders' Cup Winner's Circle
Celebration
* Activities on and off-site that will allow fans, corporations and private
donors to participate in the fundraising efforts

"We are pleased to continue our relationship with The V Foundation, which has
done such an extraordinary job over the past two decades in raising money for
cancer research," said Greg Avioli, Breeders' Cup President and CEO. "We all
know someone that has been affected by this disease, including my father, who
died at a young age of prostate cancer. We look to do our part in supporting The
V Foundation's mission to finding a cure."
George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN and ABC Sports and a V Foundation board
member, commented "The collaboration between Breeders' Cup and ESPN, both, in
advance and at the track, was a really special effort. Together we are making a
difference."
