Business soars at Barretts Mixed Sale
Business was up substantially across the board Tuesday at the 2013 Barretts
January Mixed Sale in Pomona, California.
At the conclusion of trading, 184 horses sold for $1,536,100, an increase of
56.3 percent over last year when $982,500 was grossed from the sale of 162 head.
The average rose 37.6 percent, from $6,065 to $8,348, while the median was up 50
percent, from $3,000 to $4,500.
The session topper was HI FASHIONED (Old Fashioned), a juvenile colt that was
gaveled down to Rozamund Barclay for $70,000. Offered by H & E Ranch, the
Florida-bred toured the ring as Hip No 241.
The February 22 foal was produced by the unraced Zamsweet (Zamindar), and he
counts as his fourth dam Dearly Precious (Dr. Fager), the champion juvenile
filly of 1975. Another branch of this female line yielded multiple Grade 2
winner Mariah's Storm (Rahy), the dam of European highweight and noted sire
Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat).
