Cal-bred fillies seek Generous Portion

Impressive maiden winners KALOOKAN LESSIE (Deputy Commander) and R LUCKY

STRIKE (In Excess [Ire]) will square off in Wednesday's $100,000 Generous

Portion S. for California-bred two-year-old fillies at Del Mar.

Kalookan Lessie broke her maiden at first asking by five lengths at Hollywood

Park, then was placed fifth after finishing second as the 3-5 favorite in the

July 22 California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association S. Trainer Doug O'Neill

will equip the dark bay filly with blinkers for the six-furlong Generous

Portion. Tony Farina, who rode Kalookan Lessie in both of her career starts,

retains the mount.

R Lucky Strike led nearly every step of the way, winning by three lengths,

when she was unveiled on July 24 at Del Mar. The Wesley Ward trainee gets a

rider change to Patrick Valenzuela, who replaces Rene Douglas.

The field, in post position order, with jockeys and morning-line odds,

consists of R Lucky Strike, 5-2; SIERRA SWEETIE (Old Topper), Tyler Baze, 9-2;

Kalookan Lessie, 2-1; PRINCESS MCLEAN (Scatmandu), Mick Ruis, 15-1; BID OF

GENIUS (Beau Genius), Victor Espinoza, 4-1; PALI GIRL (Bertrando), Garrett

Gomez, 6-1; and MORE ANGELS (Slew of Angels), Matt Garcia, 20-1.
