Horse Racing Ireland Monday hosted the 10th annual Horse Racing Ireland

Awards in the Pavilion at Leopardstown Racecourse, honoring Derrick Smith, Susan

Magnier and Michael Tabor's Camelot as its Horse of the Year.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien took the opportunity to provide an update on the well

being of the Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas, Group 1 Epsom Derby and Group 1 Irish

Derby victor.

"Camelot had colic, as everyone knows, but he's in great order now and back

cantering," O'Brien said. "He's heavier than he's ever been before and it looks

like he's done well physically. If everything goes well next year, we'll look

forward to him.

"We always felt his best trip was somewhere from a mile to a mile and a

quarter, so he'll probably be campaigned that way. He might start off in the

Mooresbridge Stakes, then go to the Tattersalls Gold Cup, and we'll maybe have a

look at Royal Ascot."

The Group 3 Mooresbridge on May 6 serves as a prep over the Curragh course

for the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup on May 26.

With Monday's Horse Racing Ireland prizes largely dominated by those from the

National Hunt sphere, Joseph O'Brien collected his second straight Flat Award

after achieving the rare feat of being crowned Ireland's leading rider one year

after claiming the apprentice jockeys' title.

HRI also presented Moyglare Stud with the Contribution to the Industry Award.

The Moyglare team -- including owner Eva-Maria Bucher Haefner, manager Stan

Cosgrave and Fiona Craig -- were praised as one of the enduring success stories

in Irish racing and breeding since the late Walter Haefner purchased the stud in

1962.

"Despite the difficult economic situation, 2012 has delivered excellent

results for Irish trainers and jockeys," HRI's Brian Kavanagh said. "The award

winners are a reminder of the strength and professionalism in our industry, and

I have no doubt that we will continue to see further successes at the highest

national and international levels in the future."
