CashCall Futurity runners gearing up

Massive Drama will enter the Futurity undefeated (Benoit Photo) Five juveniles pointing for next Saturday's $750,000 CashCall Futurity (G1) on Hollywood Park's closing day posted works on Sunday in advance of that 1 1/16-mile test. Undefeated Hollywood Prevue S. (G3) victor MASSIVE DRAMA (Kafwain) recorded the quickest of the works, drilling a bullet five furlongs in :58. Trained by Bob Baffert, the dark bay colt broke his maiden by three parts of a length at Monmouth Park on October 26, the undercard program of the new two-day Breeders' Cup format. "I had him in :58 and change," said Baffert, who is looking for a record-equaling fourth Futurity win. "He worked behind another horse. It was a good work." Two-time stakes winner OLD MAN BUCK (Hold That Tiger) breezed five-eighths in 1:03 for trainer Kenny McPeek. The juvenile chestnut captured the Cradle S. at River Downs before adding a third in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) to his record next out. Most recently, Old Man Buck was a 2 1/4-length victor of the grassy Grand Canyon H. at Churchill Downs. "He started slow but he went fast in the lane," explained Alan Shell, foreman for McPeek. "He wasn't blowing at all. I was pleased."

Trainer Todd Pletcher also sent out three of his CashCall Futurity hopefuls.

Last out Hollywood Prevue third-placer MEAL PENALTY (Tale of the Cat)

posted five furlongs in :59 3/5 under exercise rider Loren Robson while working

in tandem with the undefeated MONBA (Maria's Mon), who got the same

distance in 1:00 with Garrett Gomez aboard. REFEREE (Distorted Humor) and

jockey Julien Leparoux logged five furlongs in :59 3/5.

"We tried blinkers on Meal Penalty (in the work)," assistant trainer Michael

McCarthy said. "It was just experimental. I'm not sure whether he will wear them

in the Futurity or not."

Allowance winner and CashCall Futurity contender EATON'S GIFT (Johannesburg)

clocked five furlongs on Saturday in 1:00 2/5 for trainer Dale Romans. Also

working on Saturday was multiple stakes hero SIERRA SUNSET (Bertrando), who

posted five-eighths in :58 4/5 for conditioner Jeff Bonde.

SLEW'S TIZNOW (Tiznow), second in the Breeders' Futurity, is the only

probable starter not already bedded down at Hollywood. The dark bay is expected

to fly out from Kentucky on Tuesday.

"We're trying to get out safe," explained Greg Fox, who took over training

duties for the colt on October 29 from a suspended Patrick Biancone. "The

weather has been terrible here the last few days. I was able to train him up to

yesterday (Saturday), but (Sunday) and (Monday) look bleak. He will be a fresh

horse when he gets (to Hollywood Park)."

Expected to join the line-up is stakes-placed OVEREXTENDED (Monarchos), who

was fifth by just 2 3/4 lengths last out in the Delta Jackpot S. (G3) at Delta

Downs. Trainer Doug O'Neill confirmed on Sunday that the gray colt will be

entered with Martin Garcia getting the mount.

The rest of the now probable 14-horse field are Real Quiet S. victor COLONEL

JOHN (Tiznow); Hollywood Prevue runner-up INTO MISCHIEF (Harlan's Holiday);

Generous S. (G3) second INDIAN SUN (Indian Charlie); Norfolk S. (G1)

third-placer SHORE DO (Include); and TRES BORRACHOS (Ecton Park), who broke his

maiden by a half-length while going 8 1/2 furlongs last out over the track.
