Consequence looms as one to beat in Lake George

CONSEQUENCE (El Prado [Ire]) established herself as a turf filly to watch

when recording a smart three-length score in her career debut last summer at

Saratoga, and the Shug McGaughey trainee will return to the Spa in good form

when she contests Friday's $150,000

Lake

George S. (G2), which has attracted 10 three-year-old lasses, including a

main-track only runner, for 1 1/16 miles over the inner turf.

Fourth in the Miss Grillo S. (G3) last fall and third in the Beaumont S. (G2)

at Keeneland in April, Consequence donned blinkers in her most recent start and

garnered her first stakes victory with a half-length decision in the American

One Thousand Guineas S. at Arlington Park on May 23.

"Since I put the blinkers on her, she has been easier for Johnny (Velazquez)

to handle," said McGaughey, who trained Consequence's dam, multiple Grade

1-winning millionaire Educated Risk. "I think she will be fairly forwardly

placed, but not overdone. However the race comes up will be fine with her. It's

important that she be in the race."

The chestnut filly will break from post 5 with Velazquez.

Regret S. (G3) queen KEERTANA (Tom Proctor), who exits a comfortable tally in

the Indiana Distaff S., will be seeking her third consecutive stakes win while

making her New York debut in the Lake George. The Tom Proctor pupil will pick up

the services of Jose Lezcano.

Trainer Roger Attfield is responsible for a pair of uncoupled runners in LADY

SHAKESPEARE (Theatrical [Ire]) and MISS KELLER (Ire) (Montjeu [Ire]). The

former, who is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 turf winner Shakespeare, will

return to stakes competition off a pair of allowance wins at Woodbine. The

latter, a two-time winner in Ireland this season, will be making her U.S. debut.

Other runners include MARY'S FOLLIES (More Than Ready) and KIAWAH CAT (Lemon

Drop Kid), the top two respective finishers in the June 27 Boiling Springs S.

(G3) at Monmouth Park; STRIKE THE BELL (Mizzen Mast), who narrowly missed when

making her first start against winners in the Perfect Sting S. at Belmont last

time; and THE BEST DAY EVER (Brahms), a narrowly beaten second to Keertana in

the Regret two starts back.
