Constitution out of Dubai World Cup with sore shin

Multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Constitution (Tapit), recent winner of the Donn H. (G1), will not travel to Dubai for the March 28 Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) at Meydan Racecourse. Owned by WinStar Farm and Twin Creeks Racing, the four-year-old was discovered to have a little heat and soreness in his left shin following a five-furlong breeze in 1:01 1/5 last Saturday at Palm Beach Downs. "After breezing him on Saturday, we detected some heat and slight soreness in his left shin on Sunday morning," trainer Todd Pletcher said. "With the Breeders' Cup as our main goal, we decided to take the conservative approach for now and not ship him to Dubai." WinStar President and CEO Elliott Walden added: "Constitution is a tremendous stallion prospect, and we want to be very careful with him. It doesn't make sense to push him and send him overseas now." |
Constitution has bankrolled $1,004,096 from his 6-4-0-1 line. A half-brother
to last fall's Tempted S. (G3) winner Jacaranda (Congrats), he was produced by
the stakes-placed Baffled (Distorted Humor). The mare is in turn a full sister
to U.A.E. Group 2 scorer Surfer, expected to be a top contender in the Godolphin
Mile (UAE-G2) on World Cup night.
After Constitution's defection, Horse of the Year California Chrome (Lucky
Pulpit) and Lea (First Samurai), runner-up as the defending champion in the Donn,
loom as the U.S. World Cup hopes.
