The Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearlings Sale came to a close on Thursday, with a pair of colts each bringing $400,000 to top the final day.
The four-day auction saw a total of 981 yearlings purchased for $35,812,900 at an average of $36,507 and a $12,000 median. Last year’s Kentucky Fall Yearlings Sale ran for three days and sold 777 yearlings for a gross $25,691,500, a $33,065 average and a $14,500 median.
Hip No. 1178, a bay colt by Into Mischief, was the first to reach $400,000 when purchased by Mike Ryan, agent, from the Dromoland Farm Inc. (Gerry Dilger), Agent III, consignment. The Kentucky-bred colt is out of the unraced Dixie Union mare Im Cruising Dixie and is a half-brother to dual stakes-placed Mezzano. This is the same female family as Hall of Famer Ancient Title.
Mark Casse, agent, went to $400,000 to secure Hip 1365, a chestnut colt by Curlin from the consignment of Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent. The Ontario-bred is the first registered foal out of the Canadian Grade 2-placed Stormy Atlantic mare Mekong Delta, who is a full sister to Canadian champion Leonnatus Anteas. This female line boasts English champion Noalcoholic and Italian champion Alea II.
Thursday’s final session saw 253 yearlings bring a total of $10,114,300. The average came to $39,977 and the median was $15,000. There was no comparative session in 2016.
The next sale on the Fasig-Tipton calendar is the November Sale in Lexington, Kentucky, on November 6.
