Dancing Band brings $250,000

Hip No. 573, DANCING BAND (Dixieland Band), a four-year-old stakes-placed

racing or broodmare prospect, sold for the top price of $250,000 to E. A.

Blythe, agent, at Monday's final session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter

Mixed Sale in Lexington, Kentucky. The bay filly was consigned by Paramount

Sales, agent.

Dancing Band finished third in last year's Lake Placid S. (G2) at Saratoga and has

earned $97,057 from a record of 12-2-2-1. She is out of Grade 3 juvenile winner

and $302,833-earner Miss Ra He Ra (Rahy), a half-sister to Japanese

stakes-placed Eishin La Grange (Gulch). This is the same female family as

Broodmare of the Year Primal Force (Blushing Groom [Fr]), the dam of 1998

Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Awesome Again (Deputy Minister) and 2000

Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Macho Uno (Holy Bull), who was named champion

two-year-old that same year.

On Monday, 176 horses sold for $3,643,000, a 33 percent drop compared to the

same session last year when 237 horses fetched $5,436,000. The average price

declined 9.8 percent, from $22,937 to $20,699, while the median price rose 33.3

percent, from $6,000 to $8,000.

For the two-day auction, 371 horses changed hands for $6,332,300, an 18.5

percent decline compared to a year ago when 444 horses sold for $7,772,700. The

average price fell 2.5 percent, from $17,506 to $17,068, while the median price

jumped 40 percent, from $5,000 to $7,000. There were 125 horses listed as not

sold compared to 186 in 2006.
