Deauville numbers strong

Arqana's Deauville August Yearling Sale, which concluded on Monday, recorded the third-highest total

gross in the past 20 years with the figure of 30,416,000, bettered only in 2000

and 2001.

The leading buyer at the sale was Shadwell, with 2,190,000 spent on six lots,

including the 750,000 sale topper, followed by Peter Doyle Bloodstock, who

secured 15 yearlings for a total of 2,069,000. The leading vendor was again

Haras d'Etreham, who sent 55 into the ring and sold 43, for a total of

4,224,000. Next best was Haras du Mezeray, who consigned the sale topper and

sold 17 of their 22 yearlings for a total of 2,702,000. In terms of average

among the consignors, Watership Down Stud came out on top at  291,000, with

Haras du Bouquetot achieving a figure of 263,333.

With 10 yearlings sold, Montjeu (Ire) was the most successful sire of the

sale with a gross of 1,355,000, followed by Anabaa, whose 14 yearlings grossed

1,214,000. In terms of average, Elusive Quality had a sole offering which sold

for 500,000, Monsun emerges on top with 460,000, including the sale topper.

Green Desert's average stood at 336,667, while among the first-season sires,

Dalakhani was responsible for four yearlings sold for an average price of

166,250. Hawk Wing was second on this list, with his five yearlings averaging

133,400, and Oasis Dream (GB) selling four from four at an average of 123,000.
