A field of seven has been entered in Friday's Doubledogdare S. (G3) at
Keeneland, but the star of the 1 1/16-mile show will be PANTY RAID (Include).
The multiple Grade 1-winning filly has been off since running third in the Falls
City H. (G2) at Churchill Downs on November 22 and will be making her return
over the same Polytrack she captured the Spinster S. (G1). She has shown the
versatility to win on practically any surface, taking the Black-Eyed Susan S.
(G2) on Pimlico's dirt and capturing the American Oaks Invitational (G1) over
the turf at Hollywood Park, and has been working well at Keeneland of late for
trainer Todd Pletcher. This is Panty Raid's race to lose with Garrett Gomez
returning to the irons.
While Panty Raid is likely to go off the prohibitive favorite, the Kiaran
McLaughlin-trained I'M IN LOVE (Zafonic) could offer a chance for value in the
runner-up spot. The dark bay mare has spent the majority of her career competing
on the turf, taking the George Rosenberger Memorial S. as well as running second
in the Athena H. (G3) and Foresta S. last season. She was also second in the
Maple Leaf S., with that one coming over Woodbine's Polytrack in early November.
I'm in Love shows a 2-2-0 mark from five all-weather starts, including a nose
second last April in a Keeneland allowance/optional claiming test. The
five-year-old has the ability to take on all but our top pick and will have
Patrick Husbands in for the ride.
MARQUEE DELIVERY (Marquetry) might also make up for Panty Raid's low odds in
the exotics. The four-year-old chestnut was second by just three parts of a
length in Turfway Park's My Charmer S. in December, and ran third in the
Arlington Oaks (G3) earlier in the season. The Philip Sims charge captured her
last race, a mile allowance/optional claimer at Turfway, by 9 1/4 lengths and
could continue to improve in this spot with John Velazquez aboard.
MERIBEL (Peaks and Valleys) is the other class filly in this field. The dark
bay mare has spent her past six races competing against graded rivals, recording
four show placings in the process. Among her thirds was the Ballston Spa H. (G2)
against the likes of Wait a While (Maria's Mon), and she was also fourth by just
1 3/4 lengths in the Diana H. (G1) prior to that one. The Christophe Clement
trainee made her 2008 bow a rallying third in the Endeavour S. (G3) and, in her
only attempt on a synthetic surface, she won the 2006 Valley View S. (G3) on
Keeneland's Polytrack. Meribel will be tough to deny in the gimmicks. Javier
Castellano has the call.
SAY YOU WILL (A.P. Indy) could jump up here and threaten in the top three.
The Eoin Harty charge broke her maiden on Keeneland's Polytrack and was second
in the La Canada S. (G2) in her stakes debut last out. The lightly raced
four-year-old doesn't appear as quick as others in here, but if she shows any
improvement at all Say You Will could challenge in the exotics.
CARRIAGE TRAIL (Giant's Causeway) owns some very nice BRIS Speed numbers, but
the bay mare could find nothing when sixth in the Madison S. (G2) earlier in the
meet. We can't recommend based on that effort. INDESCRIBABLE (Pleasant Tap) took
seven tries to break her maiden and was well-back in her stakes debut last out.
The four-year-old chestnut appears out of her class against these.
