Dubawi colt tops first Doncaster session
A colt from the first crop of Dubawi provided the highlight at the opening
session of Doncaster's St Leger Yearling Sale on Tuesday, selling for
£220,000. Charlie Vigors' Hillwood Stud
consigned the January-foaled bay as Hip No. 38, and the athletic colt is out of
a half to 2003 Autumn S. (Eng-G3) winner and Racing Post Trophy (Eng-G1)
runner-up Fantastic View and this year's G2 Superlative S. (Eng-G2) second-place
finisher Weald Park (Cozzene). It was Malih al Basti who saw off Angus Gold to
prevail and provide Vigors with a handsome return on the 55,000 guineas paid at
Tattersalls December.
Acclamation, who also sold at this sale, provided the main focus away from
the day's topper with a pair of colts in demand. Hip 58, from the draft of Brian
Grassick's Newtown Stud, sold to Richard O'Gorman Bloodstock for
£180,000 after denying a persistent Bobby
O'Ryan. He is a half-brother to 2001 Greenlands S. (Ire-G3) scorer Final Exam
(College Chapel) and 2004 Lowther S. (Eng-G2) third Spirit of Chester (Lend a
Hand [GB]), while under his second dam is Firth of Fifth (Traditionally), who
captured last month's Superlative S. at Newmarket.
Late in the session, Angus Gold paid £150,000
for another of Acclamation's sons direct from Liam Cashman's stud. Consigned as
Hip 159, he is out of a half to the 2003 Lowther S. third Dunloskin and his
extended family includes the Grade 3 winner Mayoumbe (Fr).
"We are delighted with the solid trade that we experienced today,
particularly for the better lots," DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby commented
"All the faces that we hoped would attend were present today, and many of them
were active, which resulted in a lively day of trade that we are confident will
continue throughout the week."
The sale continues daily through Thursday. Full results are available at
