Elmer Miller dies

Owner/breeder Elmer Miller of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, died Monday after a long battle with cancer. He

was 75. A prominent businessman, general contractor and land developer, Miller

was an avid owner/breeder of Thoroughbreds for more than 33 years.

Miller was known for having the word "Coax" in the name of many of his horses.

Among the horses he owned and/or bred were Coax Me Chad, runner-up in the 1984 Kentucky Derby (G1), Grade 2

winner Coaxing Matt and multiple stakes heroine Coax Chelsie. Miller also

campaigned Foxy Deen, winner of the 1984 Alcibiades S. (G2).

Owner of Roy A. Miller & Sons for 47 years, Miller got into Thoroughbred

racing in 1972 at the suggestion of his wife, Marlene. Besides his wife, he is

survived by two sons, Mark and Matt, a daughter, Melinda Kraemer, four

grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
