Fairly Grey continues momentum in December Sale

Arqana's December Sale rolled on Sunday, with FAIRLY GREY (Fr) (Linamix)

proving best of His Highness the Aga Khan's draft and of the session overall. As

on the first day, the consignment maintained its appeal and it was France pur

Sang who secured the 11-year-old dam of Grade 2 winner Fairly Ransom on

behalf of 6C Racing. In foal to Dr. Fong and consigned as Hip 253, she is a stakes-placed

full sister

to the 2003 Prix Ganay (Fr-G1) winner, Fair Mix, and was knocked down to

Jean-Louis Branere's operation for 220,000.

Later in the session, another of the Aga Khan's band, KHALISA (Ire) (Persian

Bold), was purchased by BBA Germany for 185,000, the day's third-highest price.

Consigned as Hip 299, the dual group scorer Khalisa is carrying a Kahyasi

full sibling to the 2002 Grand Prix de Paris (Fr-G1) winner, Khalkevi.

Bertrand

le Metayer of BLM Bloodstock had earlier paid 200,000 for the six-year-old mare

CHANGE PARTNER (Turtle Island). From Bob Lalemant's draft and consigned as Hip 199,

Change Partner is from the family of the 2003 Pretty

Polly S. (Ire-G2) scorer Hanami and is in foal to Lavirco.

Badgers Bloodstock

secured Hip 235, the seven-year-old mare ASHLEY RIVER (Ashkalani), from the draft

of Haras du Thenney. The half to 2004 Debutante S. (Ire-G2) winner Silk and

Scarlet and Grade

3 scorer Danger Over hails from the family of Sanglamore and reached 140,000

while in

foal to Green Tune.

Haras du Logis consigned the top-priced foal as Hip 256, a colt by Peintre

Celebre out of the useful Fancy Lady (Ascot Cyclone) from the family of Magellan and last year's

Norfolk S. (Eng-G3) winner, Masta Plasta. He was knocked down to Anthony Stroud

for 115,000. That price was matched by MAB Agency for Hip 284, Haras du Cadran's

three-year-old filly THEATER BUFF (Theatrical [Ire]). Her second dam is the

top-class Chapel of Dreams (Northern Dancer), a close relative of Storm Cat whose family also

includes Ticker Tape (GB).

After the barnstorming first session, the momentum continued Sunday, with

the session average of 26,707 up 123 percent on last year and the median of 15,000

representing an increase of 114 percent.

"Today's figures are excellent again and over double last year," President

Eric Hoyeau said. "Today's aggregate is superior to the first day last year,

which is traditionally the best. We had very good demand from French buyers to

counter yesterday's foreign buyers and there is definitely a will from the

domestic purchasers to invest in good breeding stock, so that's very positive.

The fire was lit yesterday and continued today, when again overseas investors

were very active and we couldn't be more pleased."
