Fasig-Tipton to sponsor new Filly Festival at Gulfstream

Last updated: 1/8/10 4:47 PM

Fasig-Tipton will become the title sponsor of the all-new Filly Festival at

Gulfstream Park on February 27. To accommodate the Filly Festival, Gulfstream

has made a couple of adjustments to the stakes schedule.

The Fasig-Tipton Filly Festival will be anchored by the $150,000 Davona Dale

S. (G2) for three-year-old misses. The February 27 card also features the Sabin

S. (G3) on the dirt and The Very One S. (G3) on the turf for older fillies and

mares.

Originally scheduled for February 28, The Very One was moved up one day to

become a part of the festival. Conversely, the Mac Diarmida S. (G2) for older

turf horses was shifted from its initial spot on the calendar, February 27, to

February 28.

In addition to the creation of the Filly Festival, Fasig-Tipton will continue

its sponsorship of the Fountain of Youth S. (G2). A staple on the three-year-old

racing calendar and the local prep for the Florida Derby (G1), the Fountain of

Youth will be run February 20. This is the second straight year Fasig-Tipton has

sponsored the $250,000 race.

"We are very pleased not only to continue Gulfstream Park's existing

relationship with Fasig-Tipton, but to build on it through the creation of a new

and exciting racing event in the Fasig-Tipton Filly Festival," Gulfstream Park

President and General Manager Ken Dunn said. "We're sure both the Festival and

the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth will reflect the excitement and quality

horsemen as well as fans have come to know and expect from both partners."

The Filly Festival leads up to Fasig-Tipton's Selected Two-Year-Olds in

Training Sale, slated for March 2 at Calder.

"We are very excited to be partnering once again with Gulfstream Park for two

weekends of world-class racing," Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning said.

"This gives us an opportunity to showcase the finest group of two-year-olds

offered for sale, alongside the finest group of Thoroughbreds in training."
