First winner for Wildcat Heir

Last updated: 4/3/09 8:08 PM

Grade 1 hero WILDCAT HEIR (Forest Wildcat) was represented by his first

winning offspring when his juvenile daughter Kitty in the Bag captured the 1ST race at

Santa Anita on Wednesday. Ridden by Tyler Baze in the two-furlong heat, the

Melvin Stute-trained dark bay was 3 1/4 lengths clear on the line while making

her career

bow for owners Patrick and Elizabeth Everard.

Wildcat Heir broke his maiden in his first try as well, then ran second in

the Sanford S. (G2) next out in his stakes debut. He followed that race with

four allowance tries, finishing second twice and winning twice, before returning

to the stakes ranks with a runner-up effort in the Teddy Drone S. The bay

finally broke through with a first stakes score when taking the Icecapade S. by

four lengths, then dead-heated for fourth in the Phoenix S. (G3).

Wildcat Heir earned his biggest win when rounding out his four-year-old

season, gutting out a neck victory in the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash

(G1), and wasn't seen in competition again for nearly nine months. He returned

to add the Teddy Drone to his resume, and ended his career with his only other

off-the-board run, a 10th-placing in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).

Wildcat Heir retired with a 12-6-4-0, $424,460, record. He is out of the

winning Penniless Heiress (Pentelicus), making him a full brother to dual Grade

3 victress Forest Heiress and multiple stakes winner Forest Heir.

The bay stands for a live foal fee of $6,500 at Journeyman Stud near Ocala,

Florida.
