SILVERTONGUEDEVIL was gaveled down to Al Rashid Stable for $520,000, thus topping the leaderboard Tuesday at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale of Selected Yearlings in Lexington, Kentucky. Offered by Lane's End, agent, Hip No. 348 is by Flatter and a January 29 Kentucky-bred.
Produced by the Curlin mare No Curfew, who has reared two winners from as many to race, the session-topper counts as his second dam the stakes-winning Misty Hour, who also produced Grade 2 winner India and the stakes winners Pilfer and Sing Softly.
Misty Hour is also the second dam of multiple Grade 1 winner To Honor and Serve, Grade 1 queen Angela Renee, and recent Yasuda Kinen (G1) victor Mozu Ascot.
Alex and Jo Ann Lieblong were the winning bidders at $435,000 on a Strong Mandate filly. Hip 231 was consigned by Denali Stud (Craig & Holly Bandoroff), agent.
The March 21 Kentucky-bred was produced by Fly the Flag, a Giant's Causeway half-sister to 2002 champion juvenile filly Storm Flag Flying and the stakes-winning producer With Flying Colors, among others. The filly's second dam, multiple Grade 1 winner My Flag, also won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), and the yearling's third dam was undefeated Hall of Famer and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign.
The second highest-priced colt of the session was a son of Violence that was gaveled down to Justin Casse, agent, for $370,000. Hip 176 was offered by Paramount Sales, agent.
The April 19 Kentucky-bred is out of Grade 2 winner Classic Elegance, by Carson City, who has also reared the Grade 3-placed Divine Elegance and the stakes-placed Unbridled Endeavor. This female family has also yielded Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Believe You Can.
A Street Sense colt brought $350,000 from Godolphin, which stands the stallion at its Darley Stud. Hip 312 was consigned by Michael & Julia O'Quinn, agent, and toured the ring as Hip 312.
The February 25 Pennsylvania-bred was reared by the winning Mahkama, a daughter of Bernardini who has also produced the U.A.E. stakes winner Yulong Warrior. Mahkam is herself a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Summer Raven, the dam of multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire Lewis Bay and Grade 3 winners Misconnect and Winslow Homer.
This female line has also produced English and French juvenile highweight Shalaa, multiple Grade 1 winner Wild Rush, and Group 1-winning juvenile Hayil.
At the sale's conclusion, Fasig-Tipton reported gross receipts of $19,762,500 from the sale of 196 yearlings, an increase of 22.7 percent over last year when 172 horses sold for $16,107,000. The average was up 7.7 percent, from $93,645 to $100,829, while the median rose 7.1 percent, from $70,000 to $75,000.
